The Kremlin continues to insist on the incompatibility of Armenia's membership in the European Union and EAEU

The European Union will not be able to compensate the inevitable losses for Armenia's economy in the event of the republic's exit from the EAEU. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

"During contacts with Armenian partners, the Russian side explains the impossibility of simultaneous membership in the EAEU and the EU due to the incompatibility of norms. In Yerevan, they understand both the benefits of participating in the EAEU and the consequences of leaving," the department noted.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mikhail Galuzyn stated that simultaneous membership of Armenia in the EU and EAEU is impossible. He warned that the decision to follow the path of European integration will entail a review of those established economic relations that exist today along the EAEU.

Recently, the President of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturian, signed the law on the beginning of the process of the country's accession to the European Union.

"The Republic of Armenia, striving to develop democratic institutions, increase the welfare of society, strengthen security, stability and the rule of law, announces the beginning of the process of accession of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union," the document says.

At the beginning of January, the law on Armenia's accession to the EU was approved by the country's government, and at the end of March by the parliament. Let's also remind that, according to the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, the adoption of the law does not mean the country's automatic entry into the European Union - the final decision can only be taken in a referendum. He also noted that Armenia "feels good" as part of the EAEU and is interested in developing relations with Iran, but at the same time "a certain and sensitive part of the population" strives for the country's European future.
