Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan accused his predecessors—former presidents Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Robert Kocharyan, and Serzh Sargsyan—of concealing the truth about the Karabakh settlement from the Armenian people. At a briefing in Yerevan, the head of the Armenian government noted that all these politicians in opposition to the current government recognized Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan but did not disclose this information to the public.
According to the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, they want to oust Russia from Karabakh, but no one can act as the same guarantor of peace and stability in the region. He stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, commenting on statements from Western politicians about “the task of expelling Russian peacekeepers from the region and breaking Russian-Armenian ties.”
Peskov added that “if five years ago a similar fight was waged with diplomatic masks on, now they have already been dropped and the fight is being waged directly.”
“A number of countries are trying to destabilize the situation around Karabakh. This led to the Azerbaijani side officially declaring that this number of countries can hardly lay claim to any role as mediators, since they have taken a one-sided position,” Peskov concluded. He also expressed the hope that Armenia will eventually fully resume its participation in the CSTO.
Recently, the Armenian authorities refused to participate in the CSTO summit in Minsk. In addition, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has repeatedly criticized the Russian Federation for refusing military and other support.
