A Crimean court overturned the arrest of a blind Muslim

The Supreme Court of Crimea overturned a 10-day administrative arrest for blind Muslim Alexander Sizikov. The grounds cited his health. However, his current whereabouts remain unknown.

A lawyer who arrived at the Bakhchisaray temporary detention facility discovered that Sizikov had been transferred to Simferopol. However, he is not in any Simferopol detention facility.

Alexander Sizikov was detained after a search of his home on charges of disobeying police. He attributes his prosecution to the overturning of his release from prison due to health reasons in the spring of 2025. The lawyer believes the administrative arrest may have been intended to return Sizikov to prison.

In 2023, Alexander Sizikov was sentenced to 17 years in prison for involvement in the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, based on books he was unable to read found in his possession. Hizb ut-Tahrir is designated a terrorist organization in Russia, but human rights activists consider this designation unlawful. In May 2025, a court in Krasnoyarsk Krai released Sizikov due to complete blindness and other health issues.
