Moscow is tense over the upcoming signing of a strategic partnership agreement between Armenia and the United States
Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov commented on Armenia's intention to sign a strategic partnership agreement with the United States. According to him, the United States plays a destabilizing role in the South Caucasus and "is trying to drag new countries into its wake."

At the same time, Peskov noted that Yerevan has every right to develop relations with any country.

"This is an absolutely sovereign right of our Armenian friends. This is Armenia's sovereign right to develop relations in all directions. We continue to proceed from the main thing: we have our own bilateral relations with Armenia, we value these relations, and we intend to develop them further," Peskov added.

During the visit of the Armenian Foreign Minister to the United States, it is planned to sign a document on strategic partnership between Yerevan and Washington.

Earlier, the Armenian government approved a bill to launch the country's accession process to the European Union. It has been sent to parliament for adoption. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stressed that Armenia's intention to join the EU must be finally approved through a nationwide referendum.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly expressed their disapproval of Armenia's desire to become closer to Europe. According to Moscow, this is not in Yerevan's interests and delays the normalization of the geopolitical situation in the Transcaucasus.
