In Moscow, they were again "worried" about Armenia's desire to join the European Union

Russia is concerned about Armenia's desire to become a member of the European Union, as it is incompatible with membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This was stated by the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Hrushko. According to him, Armenia risks losing the benefits of the EAEU if the West drags it into its games.

"It is well known that thanks to participation in the EAEU, Armenia is developing in dynamic stages, economic growth is observed in all key areas for Yerevan. And this is a huge asset that he risks losing if the West involves it in its geopolitical game in an attempt to tear Armenia away from Russia and other natural allies," said Alexander Hrushko.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mikhail Galuzyn stated that simultaneous membership of Armenia in the EU and EAEU is impossible. He warned that the decision to follow the path of European integration will entail a review of those established economic relations that exist today along the EAEU.

Recently, the President of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturian, signed the law on the beginning of the process of the country's accession to the European Union.

"The Republic of Armenia, striving to develop democratic institutions, increase the welfare of society, strengthen security, stability and the rule of law, announces the beginning of the process of accession of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union," the document says.

At the beginning of January, the law on Armenia's accession to the EU was approved by the country's government, and at the end of March by the parliament. Let's also remind that, according to the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, the adoption of the law does not mean the country's automatic entry into the European Union - the final decision can only be taken in a referendum. He also noted that Armenia "feels good" as part of the EAEU and is interested in developing relations with Iran, but at the same time "a certain and sensitive part of the population" strives for the country's European future.
