The 2026 World Press Freedom Index, published this morning by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), records the worst deterioration in global media freedom in 25 years. More than half of the world's countries rank the situation as "challenging" or "very challenging," and the average index level has never been lower. A key trend is increasing legal pressure on the media: of the five indicators used to assess press freedom worldwide (economy, law, security, politics, culture, and society), the "law" indicator showed the most significant decline.
Last year, the most money was transferred from the Russian Federation to Armenia
Armenia leads among neighboring countries in remittances by the end of 2023. 3.6 billion dollars were sent there from the Russian Federation (plus 15% compared to 2022, excluding December). Kyrgyzstan ranks second (2.3 billion), Georgia – third (1.5 billion). $230 million was sent to Kazakhstan from Russia.
In general, at the end of 2023, remittances from Russians to neighboring countries decreased by 12% after record growth in 2022. A total of $7.7 billion was transferred. The high amounts of remittances to Armenia, Georgia and even Kazakhstan are due to the fact that after the start of the SVO, hundreds of thousands of Russians emigrated to these countries.
