A Chechen man serving a 17-year prison sentence for allegedly preparing a terrorist attack faces a new disciplinary sanction shortly after spending five days in a punishment cell. His wife says he is being treated unfairly and fears he could be transferred to stricter prison conditions.
Naib Zakaev and Fatkhi Baraev participated in a recent raid by a detachment of the Chechen Special Purpose Battalion (OBON). They are the sons of the head of the government of Ichkeria abroad, Akhmed Zakayev, and field commander Arbi Barayev, who was killed in 2001, respectively. It is reported by Kavkaz.Realii.
The attack on a Russian army truck marked “Z” in the Belgorod region was organized by the Borz regiment, led by the ex-commander of a Chechen detachment from Syria, Rustam Azhiev, known as Abdul-Khakim Shishani. His track record includes the second Russian-Chechen war, in which he was the commander of one of the units. After that he went to Turkey and then to Syria. There, he subsequently led the Ajnad Al-Kavkaz group, which fought against the pro-Russian government of Assad.
