Four-year-old boy killed in drone strike on beach near Gelendzhik buried in Shakhty

A four-year-old boy who was killed when a drone crashed onto a beach in Arkhipo-Osipovka near Gelendzhik has been buried in Russia's Rostov region. His parents, who were also seriously injured in the attack, were able to attend the funeral after being transferred from a hospital in Krasnodar Krai to Rostov-on-Don.

The funeral was held on Aug. 13 in the Maysky settlement, part of the city of Shakhty. Many local residents attended, according to the Shakhty city administration, which was quoted by the TASS news agency. The boy was buried in the settlement's cemetery.

The funeral had previously been postponed because of the condition of the boy's parents. Both were seriously wounded in the Aug. 3 attack and initially received treatment in Krasnodar Krai before being transferred to Rostov-on-Don. They were taken to their son's funeral by ambulance under medical supervision and then returned to hospital.

The family also has a 17-year-old son, who is now staying with his grandfather.
Another family from Shakhty was vacationing alongside the boy's family in Arkhipo-Osipovka. A five-year-old girl from that family was also killed. She was buried in Maysky on Aug. 6.

Meanwhile, children seriously injured in the beach attack continue to receive treatment. Two girls, aged 11 and 16, were transferred to the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital in Moscow with severe blast and shrapnel injuries. Both have since been moved from intensive care to specialist wards. Doctors said their condition had stabilised and was considered moderately serious, with the main surgical procedures completed.

The attack took place on the morning of Aug. 3 at a beach in Arkhipo-Osipovka. According to the latest official figures from the Krasnodar Krai operational headquarters, seven people, including four children, were killed and 58 injured. Twenty-one of those injured were hospitalised, while the others received outpatient treatment.

Russian authorities blamed Ukraine for the incident. Kyiv has not directly commented on the drone falling on the beach.
Videos recorded by eyewitnesses and published online show sounds resembling gunfire shortly before the drone fell. Based on the publicly available material, it is not possible to establish with certainty whether the beach was the drone's original target or whether the aircraft ended up over the beach after being affected by air-defence or electronic-warfare systems.
