Elena Patyaeva—a friend of Seda Suleymanova, who disappeared three years ago after being forcibly returned from St. Petersburg to Chechnya—was detained in Grozny. On August 23, Patyaeva stood by the monument to journalists who died for freedom of speech, holding a sign that read: "I demand an investigation into the murder of Seda Suleymanova." This was reported by the human rights project "Slovo Zashchite" (Word for the Defense).
In North Ossetia, the police were refused to initiate a case of “discrediting” the Russian Armed Forces
The Supreme Court of North Ossetia terminated the administrative case against local resident Eduard Kerashvili, whom security forces accused of discrediting the army. The court actually refused to allow the leadership of the Center for the Investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to consider the case due to the lack of corpus delicti.
According to the police, Eduard Kerashvili published a video with Georgian actor Vakhtang Kikabidze, who condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
The Sovetsky District Court of Vladikavkaz dismissed the case, but the Center for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for North Ossetia appealed the decision. The Supreme Court of the Republic upheld the lower court's ruling.
