Protests against extradition of Chechen refugee to Russia were held in front of French embassies in European countries
Protests against the extradition of Muslim Tsintsaev, a native of Chechnya, to Russia were held in front of French embassies in the capitals of Austria and Belgium. Participants called on France, where the refugee was detained, to demonstrate legality and humanism and not allow him to be extradited to Russia.

The appeal by activists from the human rights organizations European House of Peace and Multicultural Democratic Initiative states that, given international human rights standards and France's commitments to protecting refugee rights, Tsintsaev must be allowed to remain safe.

"The administration of the Chechen Republic governs with laws reminiscent of the Middle Ages. All critics and dissidents have been killed, the male population is subjected to violence," the appeal says.

Muslim Tsintsaev, 25, was detained in France in June 2024 and remains in custody in prison. The authorities are considering deporting him to Russia.
