The case against alleged members of the Basayev and Khattab detachments has been brought to court

The investigation of the criminal case against a resident of Chechnya, Rustam Nukaev, and a resident of the Stavropol Territory, Adilkhan Elmanbetov, has been completed. They are accused under Part 2 of Art. 209 (participation in a gang), Art. 279 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (armed rebellion) and Art. 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attack on the life of military personnel).

According to investigators, on February 29, 2000, the accused, as part of a formation led by field commanders Shamil Basayev and Khattab, took part in an attack on servicemen of the 6th company of the 104th regiment of the 76th Pskov Airborne Division in the area of the village. Ulus-Kert, Shatoi district of Chechnya. Then 84 soldiers were killed and four more were wounded.

Previously, 22 participants in the armed conflict were sentenced to long terms of imprisonment. Five are wanted. The cases of five more are being considered by the courts.

As “New DOSH” wrote earlier, the Memorial human rights center is confident that such cases are put on stream, the charges are often falsified, but the defense cannot refute them, since the evidence and witnesses are classified.
