Active participant in pro-European protests attacked in Tbilisi

Last evening, an unknown person in a mask attacked Georgian civil activist Nutsa Makharadze. When she, her sister and friend entered the elevator of their building in Tbilisi, the attacker sprayed pepper spray in their faces, then doused them with green paint, cursed them and disappeared. Local media reports that Makharadze has a first-degree burn on her face.

Nutsa is an active participant in pro-European protests. According to her, some people have been following her for a month.

Large-scale protests in Georgia began after Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced on November 28, 2024, that he would suspend the country's European integration until 2028. Since then, protests of varying intensity have been held daily.

The demands of the participants remain unchanged: the resignation of the government of the ruling Georgian Dream party, holding new parliamentary elections, resuming the process of Georgia's accession to the European Union, and the release of all arrested protesters.
