Berlin has recalled its ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, for consultations. The decision, made by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadepoel, is intended to determine how to proceed, the ministry announced.

Wardens at Prison No. 1 in Dimitrovgrad, Ulyanovsk Region, forced Timur Yalkabov, a political prisoner sentenced to 17 years, to shave his head. After this, the guards tried to wash his hair with cold water, which is contraindicated for him due to bronchial asthma.
Due to this disease, Yalkabov has a group III disability. In the pre-trial detention center he began having asthma attacks.
From February to May 2023, the man was in a punishment cell, which caused his health condition to worsen. Among other things, Yalkabov’s psoriasis and knee problems worsened, and he also lost 25 kilograms.
In March 2022, the Southern District Military Court sentenced Timur Yalkabov to 17 years in a maximum security colony. The Crimean Tatar was convicted under articles on organizing the activities of a terrorist organization (Part 1 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code) and preparing for the violent overthrow of the government (Article 278 of the Criminal Code using Article 30 of the Criminal Code). The defendant was charged with participation in the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is banned in the Russian Federation.
