In prison, a Crimean Tatar suffering from asthma was not given an inhaler

Guards at Prison No. 1 in Dimitrovgrad, Ulyanovsk Region, did not give the inhaler they had for a long time to political prisoner Timur Yalkabov, who was sentenced to 17 years. He suffers from chronic asthma, and only after several attacks did the guards give him the necessary devices, which were purchased with money from his relatives.

Last year, guards forced Timur Yalkabov to shave his head. After that, the guards tried to wash his head with cold water, which is contraindicated for bronchial asthma. Due to this disease, the prisoner has a disability group III.

From February to May 2023, the man was in a punishment cell, which is why his health condition worsened even more. In particular, Yalkabov's psoriasis and knee problems worsened, and he also lost 25 kilograms.

In March 2022, the Southern District Military Court sentenced Timur Yalkabov to 17 years in a maximum security penal colony. The Crimean Tatar was convicted under articles on organizing the activities of a terrorist organization (Part 1 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code) and preparing for the violent overthrow of the government (Article 278 of the Criminal Code with the application of Article 30 of the Criminal Code). The defendant was charged with participation in the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is banned in the Russian Federation.
