The decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin that same day regarding the change of leadership in Dagestan was published on the Kremlin website. Head of the republic, Sergei Melikov, has resigned, and Fyodor Shchukin has been appointed acting head.
Georgian volunteer killed in Ukraine
Georgian citizen Viktor Kipritidi, who fought for Ukraine as part of the "Georgian Legion", was killed.
49-year-old Kipritidi was a refugee from Abkhazia, a native of Sukhumi. His body will be delivered to Georgia on August 30. Since February 2022, more than 60 Georgian fighters have died in Ukraine.
The "Georgian Legion" took part in the invasion of the Kursk region. In the Russian Federation, it is recognized as a terrorist organization, and the captured members of the legion will be tried as mercenaries and terrorists. Their unit has been participating in the battles for Ukraine since 2014.
