Ukraine recognized the genocide of the Circassian people by the Russian Empire
Today, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted Draft Resolution No. 11347, which recognized the genocide of the Circassians by the Russian Empire during the Caucasian War of 1763-1864. The decision was supported by 232 deputies.

In the adopted resolution, members of the VRU expressed solidarity with the Circassian people, condemned the actions of the Russian Empire that led to significant human losses, and honored the memory of the victims of war crimes.

Due to the mass deportation of Circassians to the Ottoman Empire, only about 5% of them remained in the historical family. Earlier, Georgia recognized the genocide of this people.

The Caucasian War (1817–1864) is the general name for the military actions of the Russian Imperial Army associated with the annexation of the North Caucasus to the Russian Empire and its military confrontation with the mountain peoples.

As a reminder, in 2022 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine recognized Chechnya as a territory temporarily occupied by Russia, and also condemned the genocide of the Chechen people.
