Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan emphasized the importance of cooperation with the European Union, calling it not only economic cooperation but also a reflection of the Armenian people's European aspirations. At the Antalya Diplomatic Forum in Turkey, he stated that the country is working toward gradual or sectoral integration with the EU.
"For us, this is not only economic cooperation, but also the choice of the Armenian people, who have European aspirations. And we are currently working in various areas to begin gradual or sectoral integration with the European Union," he said.
Kostanyan noted that for Armenia, the integration process is primarily aimed at implementing reforms, including raising standards of public administration and the economy. He also linked this process to Armenia-Turkey relations, suggesting that potential future EU membership between Armenia and Turkey will create additional economic opportunities. He also expressed hope for the accelerated development of economic relations with Turkey, regardless of this.
As a reminder, in March-April 2025, Armenia's legislative bodies approved and signed a law on the country's accession to the EU. In December 2025, a strategic partnership agenda was signed in Brussels, designed to support Armenia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, democracy, and socioeconomic sustainability.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan previously announced Armenia's move toward EU standards while maintaining its membership in the EAEU, specifying that if such a combination is impossible, a decision based on the will of the people will be made.
