The Civil Contract Party, led by incumbent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, won the parliamentary elections in Armenia, allowing it to independently form a new government. The head of government made the announcement at a briefing following the vote results.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has denied the existence of political prisoners in the country. In his statement, he emphasized that everyone is equal before the law, regardless of their activity. He cited the example of calling for an armed coup as unacceptable, even if it comes from a cleric.
Mirzoyan also noted that "silencing crimes," which "imitates political activity," is becoming a widespread practice.
On December 15, activists from the Dashnaktsutyun party held a protest outside the EU office in Yerevan, demanding that the EU acknowledge the existence of political prisoners in Armenia.
This year, Russian businessman and billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, representatives of several parties, and clergy have been arrested in Armenia. Many of them have been accused of planning a coup.
