Azerbaijani authorities refuse to transfer arrested Gubad Ibadoglu to a medical facility

The health condition of the opposition politician, economist, and chairman of the Movement for Democracy and Prosperity of Azerbaijan party, Gubad Ibadoglu, who is in a pre-trial detention center, has sharply deteriorated. His blood glucose levels are not decreasing at all.

“After another examination, Gubad Ibadoglu was diagnosed with polyneuropathy and was prescribed a month of drug treatment. The reason why sugar has not decreased over the past seven months is stress and the lack of the right to walk at least two hours a day,” said Ibadoglu’s brother Galib Togrul. At the same time, despite his brother’s serious health problems, the Ministry of Justice and the Penitentiary Service do not allow him to be transferred to a medical institution.

Let us recall that on July 24, 2023, Gubad Ibadoglu was arrested on charges of selling counterfeit money, as well as under the article of distributing extremist materials. The accused rejects the investigators' arguments.

The arrest caused a wide resonance in the world. Human rights activists believe that the scientist is being persecuted for political reasons. Politicians from the United States and European countries came out in support of it.
