Kazakh authorities denied asylum to a native of Chechnya

Kazakh authorities denied asylum to Chechen activist Mansur Movlaev, human rights activist Murat Adam reported. He claims Movlaev was deemed "not to meet the criteria" for asylum.

The activist intends to appeal the decision in court. Murat Adam claims that Movlaev faces prosecution in Russia for supporting the Chechen opposition movement 1ADAT, and that the charges against him are fabricated.

"The reasoning behind the denial was very simple: he does not meet the criteria for asylum. It's strange, of course. Mansur will definitely face murder in his homeland. But we are not giving up and have appealed the denial. We are preparing for the trial," Murat Adam wrote.

Mansur Movlaev previously served time in a Russian prison colony on drug trafficking charges, which he claims were fabricated due to his political activities. According to the 1ADAT channel, after his release in 2022, he was kidnapped and tortured, and in 2023, he fled to Kyrgyzstan. In May 2025, Movlaev was detained in Kazakhstan at the request of Russia.
