On the sidelines of a meeting between the presidents of Russia and the UAE, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov spoke out against peace talks with Ukraine and in favor of continuing the "special military operation."
A protest organized by ASIMKOM, the coordinating center for Azerbaijani political exiles, took place in front of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg. The event was timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Azerbaijan's membership in the Council of Europe.
Political exiles from various European countries participated in the protest, calling on European institutions to provide an objective assessment of the situation in Azerbaijan.
The protesters emphasized that, after a quarter-century of Azerbaijan's membership in the Council of Europe, the human rights situation and the quality of governance in the country require immediate international intervention.
"On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Republic of Azerbaijan's accession to the Council of Europe—a momentous date that once represented a solemn promise to uphold democracy, human rights, and the rule of law—we deeply regret that, in contrast, the past years have seen a steady and alarming consolidation of authoritarian power. Over the past quarter century, the Azerbaijani authorities have gradually dismantled democratic institutions, undermined the independence of the judiciary, suppressed fundamental freedoms, and created a climate of widespread repression that has noticeably intensified in recent years," the statement from the protesters read.
