Rallies in memory of the deportation of Chechens and Ingush were held in France
More than 300 people attended events in Paris, Nice and Strasbourg on February 23 dedicated to the 81st anniversary of Stalin's deportation of Chechens and Ingush. In addition to representatives of these diasporas, members of the Ukrainian and Georgian communities joined the events.
 
In particular, a rally was held in Paris, in which, among others, Ukrainians took part. They expressed solidarity with the Chechens. A photo exhibition and a screening of the documentary film by the association "Deportation Day" took place in Nice. Then the elders spoke.
 
In Strasbourg, after the rally in front of the European Parliament, demonstrators with the flag of the CRI walked to the building of the Council of Europe. The Prime Minister of Ichkeria abroad Akhmed Zakayev and natives of Kazakhstan, who witnessed the deportation, spoke to the crowd.

The 2026 World Press Freedom Index, published this morning by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), records the worst deterioration in global media freedom in 25 years. More than half of the world's countries rank the situation as "challenging" or "very challenging," and the average index level has never been lower. A key trend is increasing legal pressure on the media: of the five indicators used to assess press freedom worldwide (economy, law, security, politics, culture, and society), the "law" indicator showed the most significant decline.
