During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic considers wearing the niqab prohibited until the identified threats are eliminated and a new theological conclusion is reached. This was announced by the head of the Muslim Spiritual Directorate of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, Chairman of the Coordination Center for Muslims of the North Caucasus (KCMSC) Ismail Berdiev.
Earlier, the Muftiate of Dagestan issued a fatwa on a temporary ban on wearing the niqab. Islamic theologians said that sanctions for failure to comply with orders from the clergy do not apply. The question of following or not following fatwas “remains on the conscience and level of piety of every believer,” the Muftiate of Dagestan said.
“There are no discussions in the Kremlin on the topic of banning niqabs,” Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said today.
