New sentences handed down to participants in anti-Semitic pogrom at Makhachkala airport
A court in Krasnodar Krai sentenced six participants in the mass riots at Makhachkala airport to lengthy prison terms. Roosevelt Tagirov received eight years in prison, Bashir Magamedaliev, Magamednabi Shaikhslamov, Alibeg Ramazanov, Magamed Gadzhiev - seven years each, Shamil Gadzhiev - 4.5 years.

All of them were found guilty of committing crimes under Part 2 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in mass riots accompanied by violence, pogroms, destruction of property, as well as armed resistance to a government official).

Last week, a court in Stavropol Krai sentenced seven more residents of Dagestan who took part in the anti-Semitic pogrom at Makhachkala airport. They were sentenced to 8 to 9 years in a general regime penal colony.

The investigation believes that the organizers of the action are former State Duma deputy Ilya Ponomarev, preacher Abu Umar Sasitlinsky, and administrator of the Telegram channel "Morning Dagestan" Abakar Abakarov.

Earlier, the Fifth Cassation Court changed the territorial jurisdiction for the defendants in this case. Instead of Dagestan, they are being tried in the Stavropol and Krasnodar Territories. At least 130 people are involved in the case. A number of Dagestan imams called for leniency and, if possible, not to punish the participants in the riots.

Recall that on October 29, 2023, hundreds of people broke into the Makhachkala airport, trying to find passengers on a transit flight from Tel Aviv. The crowd protested against Israel's actions in Palestine.
