Ingush prisoner placed in solitary confinement for life-sentenced prisoners
The administration of maximum security prison colony No. 12 in the Vologda region has sent Timur Tumgoev, a 38-year-old native of North Ossetia of Ingush descent, to solitary confinement until April. The facility is located on the territory of maximum security prison colony No. 5 for life-sentenced prisoners. The reason for the punishment was a verbal altercation between the man and a prison employee. According to the complaint filed by Tumgoev’s lawyer, he is now being held in a damp and cold basement, where he has to sleep in a jacket.

Earlier, the prisoner’s sister said that he was not being given medications sent from home and was not being given proper medical care. The man suffers from a stomach ulcer, and he is being denied an examination.

In September 2018, the Security Service of Ukraine deported Timur Tumgoev at the request of the Russian authorities. In June 2019, he was sentenced to 18 years on charges of participating in hostilities in Syria on the side of radical Islamic groups. The Ingush man did not admit his guilt. According to Tumgoev's sister, he had never been to Syria and the case was fabricated. In prison, the man was repeatedly tortured and humiliated, and went on a hunger strike along with other prisoners. He was also not allowed to pray, his Koran was taken away, and his religious feelings were insulted.
