Elena Patyaeva—a friend of Seda Suleymanova, who disappeared three years ago after being forcibly returned from St. Petersburg to Chechnya—was detained in Grozny. On August 23, Patyaeva stood by the monument to journalists who died for freedom of speech, holding a sign that read: "I demand an investigation into the murder of Seda Suleymanova." This was reported by the human rights project "Slovo Zashchite" (Word for the Defense).
A prisoner from Dagestan reported the humiliation of Muslims in the Kurgan colony
A native of Dagestan, Omar Murtazaliev, spoke about torture and abuse of Muslims in IK-2, Kurgan region. According to him, FSIN officers insulted the feelings of believers and threw the Koran on the floor during a search, and provoked prisoners to protest. Many prisoners went on hunger strike until their legal rights were restored.
Murtazaliev's relatives and other residents of Dagestan previously spoke about torture in the republic during a press conference at the Memorial human rights center. They reported that Omar and other men were tortured to force them to incriminate themselves and sign false statements.
