During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
The Supreme Court of Chechnya considered the appeal of the Team Against Torture lawyer against the refusal to release Zarema Musayeva from the colony on parole. The court overturned the lower court's ruling and sent the complaint back for reconsideration.
During the consideration of the appeal, the prosecutor's office and representatives of the colony asked that the decision be left unchanged. They believe that “the goals of Musaeva’s punishment have not been achieved” and she must serve the entire sentence.
The prisoner is in pre-trial detention center No. 1 in Grozny. She was transported there for judicial assignments.
Let us remind you that on January 20, 2022, police officers from Chechnya came to Nizhny Novgorod and took Zarema Musaeva away. After being taken to Grozny, the woman was accused of using violence against a police officer. According to investigators, she scratched his face.
In July 2023, a court in Grozny sentenced Zarema Musayeva to five years in prison. According to lawyers, given her health condition, she cannot serve her sentence. The inmate suffers from type 2 diabetes and has had persistent nosebleeds and arm pain.
Zarema Musayeva is the mother of Chechen activists Abubakar, Ibragim and Baysangur Yangulbaev. Human rights activists believe that she was kidnapped as a hostage and convicted of her sons’ opposition activities.
