Elena Patyaeva—a friend of Seda Suleymanova, who disappeared three years ago after being forcibly returned from St. Petersburg to Chechnya—was detained in Grozny. On August 23, Patyaeva stood by the monument to journalists who died for freedom of speech, holding a sign that read: "I demand an investigation into the murder of Seda Suleymanova." This was reported by the human rights project "Slovo Zashchite" (Word for the Defense).
With competent defense tactics, possibly with an admission of guilt and other actions, it is possible to achieve a suspended sentence for Ilyas Yakubov. This was announced by his lawyer Maxim Kalinov.
The day before, the Chertanovsky Court of Moscow arrested until December 11 mixed martial arts fighter, a native of the Chechen Shali, Ilyas Yakubov, accused of justifying terrorism. The athlete said that he does not consider himself guilty. According to the lawyer representing his interests, in this case it would be possible to apply another preventive measure that does not involve imprisonment.
The reason for the arrest of Ilyas Yakubov was his publication on social networks. In the video, the athlete is training, and in the background is a recording of the monologue of the Chechen field commander Shamil Basayev: “We have no other way, because our people can be defeated, but cannot be conquered.”
