The Israeli government unanimously supported a proposal to recognize the mass extermination of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire during World War I as genocide. The initiative was sponsored by Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
An Abkhazian resident was convicted for publishing texts about Shamil Basayev
The Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced Timur Agrba, a resident of Abkhazia, to five and a half years in a general regime penal colony. He was accused of justifying terrorism for his Telegram channel posts, which, according to investigators, glorified Chechen field commander Shamil Basayev.
The charges stemmed from 10 posts made by Agrba in Abkhazia between late September and early December 2024. This period coincided with a conflict surrounding a museum exhibit in Sukhumi, which, among other photos, included a portrait of Basayev, who had been awarded the title "Hero of Abkhazia." The Russian Embassy in Sukhumi deemed the display of the portrait unacceptable, forcing the exhibit to be moved to the museum archives.
