A resident of Dagestan was arrested during the presidential elections, threatening to throw him under a train

Activist from Dagestan Ibragim Parkuev was detained on July 15 and released from a special detention center on July 17. According to him, in this way the police limited his freedom on the days of voting in the presidential election.

The man was arrested without explanation. According to Parkuev, the police threatened him with violence if he did not unlock his phone. They also told him that they could charge him with participation in an extremist community and throw him under a train. As a result, the activist was accused of obscene language in a public place. His phone and passport have still not been returned to him.

Last year, a court in Makhachkala fined Ibragim Parkuev 2 thousand rubles under Part 1 of Article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (Disobedience to the order of a law enforcement officer). On June 4, 2023, he came out with a banner “Happy Birthday, Alexey,” referring to the birthday of political prisoner Alexei Navalny. Later, the Supreme Court of Dagestan dismissed the case and canceled the imposed fine.
