Residents of Ingushetia and Chechnya consume the least alcohol.

The North Caucasus republics, including Ingushetia and Chechnya, have the lowest alcohol consumption in the Russian Federation, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the Unified Interdepartmental Information and Statistical System (EMISS), per capita alcohol consumption in Chechnya in April 2026 was only 0.02 liters of pure alcohol. In Ingushetia, this figure reached 0.63 liters, and in Dagestan, 0.9 liters.

According to Alexander Stavtsev, Vice President of the Association of Retail Market Experts, in the North Caucasus Federal District, "a significant portion of the population is Muslim, and this religion is intolerant of alcohol consumption."

The highest alcohol consumption rate was recorded in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, where per capita consumption was 18.2 liters of pure alcohol. This figure is slightly lower in the Jewish Autonomous Region (14.76 liters) and Chukotka (14.17 liters). The average figure for Russia in 2025 was 8.06 liters of pure ethyl alcohol.
