The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry condemned the burning of the Turkish flag that took place on April 23 in Yerevan during a torchlight procession. The ministry stated that the Armenian authorities should have prevented the procession in a timely manner, calling it "an expression of deep-rooted ethnic hatred."
Dagestani resident Vadim Abdullaev was sentenced by the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don to 14 years in prison for allegedly plotting a terrorist attack on a school in Makhachkala and recruiting supporters of the Islamic State (IS). There is no information about the defense or Abdullaev's position in the case file.
According to the indictment, on April 30, 2023, Abdullaev joined IS and then attempted to recruit three Makhachkala residents, persuading them to swear allegiance and spread the group's ideology. In May of that year, he allegedly offered them training to carry out a terrorist attack on a school in the city.
This is one of the sentences handed down by the Southern District Military Court for terrorism-related cases, of which Dagestan has the highest number. This court previously sentenced Zamir Saitov, who was a minor at the time of his arrest, to 19 years in prison on charges of plotting terrorist attacks. Umaraskhab Alibekov was also convicted. According to the official version, he failed to report his acquaintances' plans to carry out armed attacks in Makhachkala and Derbent in the summer of 2024.
