Elena Patyaeva—a friend of Seda Suleymanova, who disappeared three years ago after being forcibly returned from St. Petersburg to Chechnya—was detained in Grozny. On August 23, Patyaeva stood by the monument to journalists who died for freedom of speech, holding a sign that read: "I demand an investigation into the murder of Seda Suleymanova." This was reported by the human rights project "Slovo Zashchite" (Word for the Defense).
A resident of Dagestan was awarded compensation for illegal detention during a picket
According to a court decision, the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Dagestan must pay 20 thousand rubles to lawyer Marat Ismailov. The police illegally detained him because he approached a picket participant on the street.
On January 24, 2022, Marat Ismailov passed a single picket in Makhachkala in support of political prisoner-journalist Abdulmumin Gadzhiev. He tried to say hello at the picket site to the founder of the Chernovik newspaper, Magdi Kamalov, and for this he was taken to the police department. The security forces detained Ismailov for more than two hours and demanded written explanations from him, which the court declared illegal.
