KBR resident upheld fine for saying “No to war”

The Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria refused to cancel the punishment in the form of an administrative fine in the amount of 30 thousand rubles to Tamerlan Ivanov. Previously, he was found guilty of discrediting the army.

A young man was detained on the street because he had a piece of paper attached to his backpack with the text “No to war” and the letter “Z” crossed out.

Tamerlan Ivanov explained in court that he attached a piece of paper with a pacifist slogan to his backpack “under the impression of a poem by the great Russian poet Yevtushenko.” He pleaded not guilty.

From March 2022, the maximum penalty under the article on discrediting the army is a fine of 50 thousand rubles. Repeated violations may result in criminal liability.
