16 countries and 120 non-governmental organizations protested to the Georgian authorities against the establishment of “Putin’s rules”

The adoption by the ruling party of Georgia of the law on foreign agents is an attempt to establish Putin’s rules and a betrayal of ancestors and compatriots who fought and are fighting against the “Russification” of Georgia. This was stated in a joint statement of 120 non-governmental organizations in the country.

“We once again declare that the Georgian people will not accept Russian laws, violent rule and separation from the Western world. We fully share the position of the President of Georgia that it is impossible to improve this law and the statement of the European Commission, according to which it should be withdrawn. The will of the Georgian people is unshakable. Yes - Europe! No to Russian law!” the statement says.

In addition, the chairmen of the parliamentary committees on international relations of the USA, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, the European Union, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Ukraine and the UK also published an appeal on the situation in Georgia.

“Despite repeated expressions of concern from friends and allies, the Georgian parliament has taken a troubling and repressive step that undermines democracy and contradicts its stated goal of integration with the West. Georgians have clearly rejected this Kremlin-inspired law as incompatible with their identity, European values and democratic principles. Simply put, this so-called “foreign agents” law reflects the policies of Vladimir Putin, who continues to illegally occupy 20 percent of Georgia’s territory. But we declare to the Georgian people that you are not alone,” the appeal says.
