Abkhazia refused to sign an economic agreement with Russia
The Abkhazian parliament voted against ratifying an agreement with the Russian Federation on investments. Earlier, its possible adoption caused mass protests.

This agreement was the subject of harsh criticism from the opposition. Many residents feared that the arrival of Russian business in the unrecognized republic would leave them without work.

“This issue has been troubling our people since November 15. Today, the parliament voted against ratifying this agreement. Not a single one of the 23 deputies present raised their hands for ratification. This is not directed against Russia, this is a forced measure, because the agreement, which is enslaving for Abkhazia, could not be ratified,” explained opposition deputy Kan Kvarchia.

On November 19, the Abkhazian parliament accepted the resignation of President Aslan Bzhania, which was one of the demands of the protesters. After that, the former head of the unrecognized republic announced his intention to run for office again.
