The Tbilisi City Court has remanded Giorgi Baramidze, a leader of the opposition United National Movement, in custody. The politician has been charged under Articles 307¹ ("high treason") and 318 ("sabotage") of the Criminal Code of Georgia. He faces up to four years in prison.
Activists Report Detention of Medical Student in Chechnya
The Chechen opposition movement NIYSO reported the kidnapping of 26-year-old Mansur Rasuyev in Chechnya. According to the organization, Rasuyev, a medical student from Moscow, was detained by security forces. The reasons for the detention and the whereabouts of the young man are unknown.
In early August, NIYSO reported the detention of about 10 people in Urus-Martan. According to activists, they were tortured by the police to force them to sign a contract to participate in the war with Ukraine.
NIYSO also reported the detention of a teenager in Grozny, allegedly for tearing up a portrait of Akhmat Kadyrov. The incident occurred on July 27.
