Armenia and Azerbaijan may sign a peace treaty in Kazakhstan

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke positively about the possible imminent signing of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Almaty. Previously, a meeting of the foreign ministers of both countries should take place there.

“It is symbolic that this important event will take place in the city where the historic Alma-Ata Declaration was signed in December 1991, which established the foundations for the independent development of the CIS countries and approved the principles for determining interstate borders,” Tokayev recalled. He emphasized that the upcoming meeting will contribute to peace in the South Caucasus.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev also noted the positive dynamics of the peace process with Armenia. He stated this during the World Forum “Dialogue for Peace and Global Security.”

“After thirty years of confrontation, Azerbaijan and Armenia clearly understand that they want peace in the region. It can only be achieved by normalizing relations between our countries,” Aliyev said. He also said that the parties do not need mediators who only want to light a fire in the region.

Recently, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken held telephone conversations with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The State Department emphasized the importance of concluding peace, which the United States has sought throughout history.
