Armenia has declared its desire to become part of the European Union

During his visit to Latvia, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan said that his country wants to be part of the European Union.

“We need support to establish long-term peace. We have no territorial claims against our neighbors. All we need is the desire of the Azerbaijani government to establish peace. And in this we need help from Latvia and other European partners. We share the values of Latvia and EU members, so we need support to become a full member of the EU family,” Simonyan emphasized.

In addition, according to the speaker of parliament, a referendum on joining the EU may soon be held in Armenia. He spoke about this in an interview with the Latvian TV channel LSM. lv.

“A couple of days ago there was a discussion in our parliament about a referendum... I think that someday in the near future we will have this referendum,” Simonyan shared.

He believes that the citizens of the republic will choose the path of European integration.

Recently, Alen Simonyan stated that “Russia cheated and deceived” his country. He was referring to the lack of support from Moscow in the Armenian-Azerbaijani military conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

“Russia came, took Nagorno-Karabakh from the Armenians, gave it to Azerbaijan and returned back. This happened when we were completely dependent on Russia,” Grigoryan said and repeated Prime Minister Pashinyan’s thesis that Yerevan would leave the pro-Russian CSTO bloc.

“Pashinyan himself, by the way, does not allow himself to do this, and even if he speaks negatively about the Russian Federation, he gets off with much more general and less harsh phrases,” they responded to such harsh criticism in the Russian diplomatic corridors.
