According to a report by the French Ministry of Defense presented to Parliament, Armenia and France signed arms supply contracts worth a total of €274.5 million between 2023 and 2024. The document emphasizes that equipment exports, military exercises, and joint operations are exclusively defensive in nature.
Until 2022, France virtually did not supply Armenia with weapons, but during that period, a significant number of contracts were signed to equip the ground forces. Discussions are also underway regarding the implementation of joint projects in the Armenian defense industry.
It was also reported that Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan announced his intention to continue purchasing weapons and military equipment, taking into account the agreements reached between Baku and Yerevan in Washington on August 8. Papikyan emphasized the importance of these agreements for Armenia's future military policy, without disclosing specific details.
In June 2024, Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan reported that Russia's share of arms and military equipment supplies to Armenia had fallen from 96% to less than 10%. He emphasized that this was due to Russia's own fault. Since then, France and India, as well as several European countries, have become Armenia's main arms suppliers.
