In the near future, the process of withdrawal of peacekeepers from Nagorno-Karabakh, the territory of Azerbaijan, will be completed. This was reported by the press service of the country's Ministry of Defense.
In mid-April, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov confirmed the withdrawal of the Russian military contingent from Karabakh. According to the tripartite statement dated November 10, 2020, after the end of the war between Azerbaijan and Armenia, a 2,000-strong military contingent of the Russian Federation was stationed in Karabakh, the duration of which was set for 5 years (until 2025).
Earlier, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan announced the departure of Russian peacekeepers from the Tavush region of the country and the imminent departure of Russian border guards from Yerevan airport. Armenia has repeatedly pointed out the inability of Russian troops to provide support. As a result, Yerevan began to move away from Moscow and actually stopped military-political cooperation with it. Armenian officials have repeatedly named European countries and the United States as priority partners and allies.
