Representatives of the Council of Europe have called on Azerbaijani authorities to release human rights defender Anar Mammadli, who was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Specifically, PACE rapporteur on political prisoners Azadeh Rojhan asserts that his prosecution is political in nature and that fundamental principles of a fair trial were violated during the proceedings.
Azerbaijan has begun exporting plastic construction materials to Armenia, according to data from the country's State Statistical Committee.
In June, the first shipment of plastic construction components—totaling 1.39 tonnes and valued at $5,900—was sent to Armenia.
Since the beginning of 2026, the volume of Azerbaijani exports to Armenia has reached $17.1 million. Meanwhile, return shipments remain negligible: from January to June, indirect imports of goods from Armenia to Azerbaijan totaled just $960, and no Armenian products entered the country at all in June.
This shipment serves as further evidence of the gradual normalization of trade relations between Baku and Yerevan. Azerbaijani statistics had previously recorded exports of electricity and various other goods to Armenia via intermediaries; plastic construction materials have now been added to that list.
