The Memorial Human Rights Center recognized Eduard Asanov, a citizen of the Russian Federation and Ukraine, a Crimean Tatar, as a political prisoner. In July 2024, he was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison on charges of participating in an illegal armed group.

More than 150 prisoners - natives of Chechnya - were transferred to Stavropol Krai and the Chechen Republic this year from colonies in other regions of Russia, including the most remote ones. According to the results of 2022-2023, there were 112 such convicts. This was reported by the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Chechen Republic Mansur Soltayev.
According to him, the transfer of prisoners to the place of residence of their close relatives has a positive effect on their correction. At the same time, if a person is punished under paragraph 4 of Article 73 of the Criminal Executive Code, then it is impossible by law to transfer him to a colony closer to home and relatives. We are talking about those convicted of terrorist activities, life-sentenced prisoners, etc.
"In other cases, we work with representatives of the Federal Penitentiary Service in the regions and negotiate with them. We are trying to transfer prisoners to Stavropol Krai and the Chechen Republic closer to their families," Soltayev explained.
Previously, the FSIN, contrary to court decisions, repeatedly refused to transfer Chechen prisoners to colonies closer to home. In particular, this concerned Albek Dakhtayev, Salyakh Bakaniyev, etc.
