Former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan warned against the current government's flippant attitude toward possible harsh responses from Moscow. He believes the authorities fail to grasp the scale of the potential impact Russia could have, including tariff revisions and export blockages.
Among the tourists who visited Georgia in the second quarter of this year, the largest number came from Turkey - 369 thousand. In second place were Russians (312 thousand people), in third place were Armenians (196 thousand). In total, 1.5 million foreigners visited Georgia in the second quarter of this year, both for long-term vacations and for one-day excursions. Every fifth tourist was from the Russian Federation.
At the same time, Russians in Georgia took first place in terms of spending among tourists with a total of $209 million. On average, each tourist from the Russian Federation spent $670 per trip. Only $460 was spent per Turkish vacationer. Of the $1.091 billion in Georgia's total tourism income for the reporting quarter, the share of Russians was 19.2%, Turks - 15.5, and EU residents - 12.7%.
