In Crimea, police officers issued human rights activist Abdureshit Dzhepparov a warning against violating the law. Law enforcement officials explained the document's origins in connection with the upcoming holiday on May 9th, but such actions typically occur shortly before the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Deportation of the Crimean Tatar People (May 18th).
Member of the Human Rights Council Kirill Kabanov called for strengthening the fight against “historical extremism” in the national republics of the Russian Federation. According to him, in some regions of the Russian Federation, Russophobic-nationalist processes are being launched, and the methodology chosen by the enemies is very simple: the main tool is the falsification of history in order to present the Russian Empire and the USSR as a prison of nations.
“To achieve this, everything positive is deliberately deleted from historical references, leaving only the negative, like the Holodomor, which is inflated to a fantastic level. I would call this historical extremism, which begins to influence even children’s consciousness through “correctly” prepared textbooks. And today we note that in a number of regions there are forces supported from outside that are trying to “restart” these very dangerous destabilization processes for our country. And today these forces may have such an opportunity,” Kabanov said.
He also announced his intention to initiate a check for the presence of “historical extremism” in the not yet launched educational course “History of our region,” which tells children about the cultural characteristics of the country’s regions.
