The FSB director confirmed that Russian border guards will partially leave Armenia

Armenia has requested the withdrawal of Russian operational groups of border guards. “This decision has been made,” stated the head of the FSB, Alexander Bortnikov.

According to him, there will be no Russian FSB officers on the demarcation line between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In addition, they will be taken out of Yerevan Zvartnots airport. At the same time, Russian border guards, at the request of Armenia, will continue to guard the border with Turkey and Iran.

Recently, in Moscow, after a long break, a meeting was held between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The latter recalled that Russian border guards will leave the territory of Yerevan Zvartnots Airport. In addition, the Russian military will be withdrawn from a number of regions of Armenia, where they have been located since 2020, which was marked by the beginning of the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh.

Pashinyan has criticized Moscow many times and spoken out in favor of closer relations with Europe and the United States. In addition, Armenia has actually ceased participation in the pro-Russian military-political bloc CSTO.
