In Kabardino-Balkaria, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) is negotiating with school administrations regarding the permissibility of wearing hijabs in educational institutions.
First Deputy Chairman of the SAM of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, Khyzyr Misirov, noted that a final decision has not yet been reached. He believes that the hijab can be adapted to school uniform requirements, offering options such as long skirts or dresses with trousers.
A representative of the muftiate emphasized that a compromise is being actively sought.
"The Constitution of the Russian Federation guarantees the right to freedom of religion, while Islam prescribes a specific dress code for women. The main tenet of the religion prescribes not to stand out and not to oppose oneself to society as a whole. Islam does not require women to wear black, but it does not forbid it either. The only rule in this matter is that colors should be subdued," Misirov explained.
