Former Sports Minister of Dagestan to be tried outside the region

Instead of the Supreme Court of Dagestan, the criminal case against the former Sports Minister and former head of Kizilyurt Magomed Magomedov will be heard by the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don. This decision, made at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office, is related to security concerns for the participants in the process, since one of the defendants has "ethno-clan connections" in the republic's law enforcement agencies and can influence the course of the proceedings.

There are eight defendants in the dock. Magomedov's lawyers called the transfer of territorial jurisdiction unfounded. In their opinion, the petition does not include the names of those who can put pressure on the participants. They also stated that transferring the case to Rostov-on-Don violates the right to defense.

Magomedov is accused of embezzlement of 460 thousand rubles, creating a gang of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and collectors. In addition, he is accused of organizing a double murder and attempted murder. According to investigators, the official's guards shot the deputy head of the treasury Mirza Sirazhudinov and his son, and also wounded the owner of a cafe near the Kavkaz highway. The motive was revenge for the unsuccessful assassination attempt on Magomedov himself in 2005.

As part of the investigation of the criminal case, the court seized Magomedov's assets. Among them are seven land plots ranging from 312 to 10 thousand square meters, two premises and five buildings. He himself has been under arrest since 2023.
