The former head of the traffic police in Stavropol once again declared that he was innocent of bribery

The former head of the UGIBDD in the Stavropol Territory, Alexey Safonov, said at the meeting of the Cherkessk City Court that his guilt was not proven.

"There is not a single physical evidence or operative-investigative material against me," he emphasized.

The announcement of the verdict was scheduled for April 30. Earlier, the prosecutor demanded that Safonov be imprisoned for 24 years and fined 100 million rubles. He is accused of creating a criminal community, receiving bribes, and abusing official powers.

Safonova and a number of his former subordinates are accused of receiving about 22 million rubles for ensuring the unhindered passage of trucks on the territory of the Stavropol Territory. Earlier, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office, property worth 180 million rubles was seized from the former head of the traffic police and his relatives. The list includes 22 objects: apartments, cars, non-residential premises, houses and a mansion with golden toilets. Information about the legality of the sources, at the expense of which the property was acquired, was not presented during the verification activities, it was noted in the message of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation.
