European Court of Human Rights sent questions to the Russian authorities on the cases of Zarema Musayeva and Movsar Umarov

The European Court communicated the complaints concerning the natives of Chechnya. This was reported by «Team against Torture».

The first question is whether the police action against Zarema Musaeva was lawful on January 21, 2022. Then the security forces from Chechnya broke into her apartment in Nizhny Novgorod and took it to Grozny by force. Since then, the woman has been in the SIZO and a criminal case has been brought against her on charges of assaulting a public official.

European judges will also consider the complaint of Movsar Umarov’s relatives. In July 2020, an employee of the restaurant in Grozny was detained by security forces and taken to an unknown location. Later, Umarov told his family over the phone that he was interrogated in connection with the viewing of videos of the opposition blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov. After a while, Umarov disappeared, and his family was informed that he had escaped during the investigation. The family believes that he was killed. The investigation refuses to find the men involved.
